Checking someones debt file

On occasion, such as when employing an individual or going into business with them you may wish to check on their creditworthiness. This is quite simple thanks to the bankruptcy and insolvency register where you can search for details of people in England or Wales who have either gone bankrupt, entered into an Individual Voluntary Arrangement or signed a debt relief order.

Individual search

Here you simply type in their name, on the results page it shows their name, date of birth, the court (usually left blank), restriction type, start date and reference number.

 

Company search

Similarly, just enter the company name, here you will see the director`s name, date of birth, Trading name, court, Reference number, start date and restriction type.

 

Checking restriction to acting as a company director

The companies house disqualified directors register lists individuals who have been denied the right to act as a company director, you can check these with ease via the link - https://www.gov.uk/search-the-register-of-disqualified-company-directors
