A CCJ is recorded on your credit file for six years from the date of the judgment. After this time, the record is removed. Should you manage to clear the debt within this time, you can ask the court for a certificate of satisfaction. The only way to avoid having your credit file affected is to pay the debt off before the matter goes to court or pay in full within the first month and obtain a ‘certificate of cancellation’ from the County Court, which issued the judgment. They would need to see evidence of payment.

You will need to complete form N443 (available online) for a certificate of satisfaction or cancellation.

There is usually a small processing charge of £15 (as of December 2021) but this may be waived if you are on a low income.
