  • Advice

For temporary stays, you can apply for a visa. The type of visa you may require and the duration of stay it allows will depend on your reasoning for coming to the UK; you will need a student visa if you intend to study, a work visa to work or invest in the UK, a family visa to join family members etc. To apply for any type of visa you will need proof of the underlying reason, this is done via a visit to your local visa application centre or by using the ‘UK Immigration: ID Check’ smartphone app. You do not need to apply for a visa if you are an Irish citizen or are an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen and came to the UK by 31 December 2020. For long-term stays, you can apply for settlement. Settlement can be acquired through various means, all of which grant you indefinite leave to remain, meaning you can stay in the UK without being time restricted in any way.
