Saving the UK an estimated £132 billion per year, unpaid carers make an immense contribution to society. However, many people do not know that they could receive money if they care for a person who gets certain benefits. At least 35 hours’ of caring per week would have to take place. It should be noted that this “care” can include simply talking with the person (mental support), not just doing physical, or personal work.

The claimant can decide how they are paid. The allowance can either be delivered at a weekly rate or every four weeks. The weekly rate as of currently is £67.25 (as of November 2021). The money will then usually be paid directly into the person's bank account.
