Introduction
Advice
This benefit can be paid if you suffer a loss of physical or mental faculty because of an accident at work, or injured in an accident on their way to or from work, or a prescribed disease contracted at work. All these types of benefits (except a one-off Disablement Gratuity) are taxable. These types of benefits are compensation-based and do not affect your eligibility for other benefits.
The benefit is paid weekly or every four weeks. If, however, your injury renders you permanently incapable of future work, you may be awarded an additional Incapacity Supplement. When the rate is assessed at under 20%, you will usually be offered a lump sum (called a Disablement Gratuity). The size of the lump sum will depend on how the injury has affected you and for how long you are reasonably expected to be out of work.
