  • Advice

Suicide may well be the result of severe depression, a feeling of complete desperation, this may, or may not have been recorded by personnel at the home. As we get older, we may become more placid, more withdrawn, the truth is that a suicidal thought can come in an instant, a sudden wave of despair can cause an action that ends in the loss of life. A suicide renders the care home liable in any case for clinical negligence, as such all suicides must be investigated to check if staff were to blame.

It is common for patients to feel alone and lonely, feeling that they are a burden in some way. With the right nursing supervision, medication, support and understanding these unpleasant incidents can be avoided.

    How we can help

Lestons can assist the police with their investigation, however, in practice, we would normally stand aside to let them do their job unless they need an expert analysis for medication tests etc where our experts may be more readily available. If the home is found guilty on any point, then we step in to file damages (compensation) claims, these do not bring your loved one back but do impart a sense of justice. Once you have informed the police then we would suggest you obtain their lead contact and open a case informing us of their contact information.
